Lavender

Lavender

Lavandula angustifolia

Lavender is a fragrant perennial herb that is prized for its aromatic flowers and is often used to make soothing herbal teas that have been known to promote relaxation and reduce anxiety. Used for centuries as a bedtime tea, it has also been used for soothing headaches, calming nerves and preventing fainting and dizziness.

Lavender Tea Preparation

  1 stem of flowers
  3-10 minutes

Carefully snip one stem, preferably with a pair of scissors. The essential oil of the plant is most potent picked in the morning after the dew has dried, and before the sun gets too hot. This makes for the best cup of tea. Gently slide the lavender flowers off the stem and steep them in a cup of boiled water for 3-10 minutes depending how strong you like it.

Other Variations

  • Slip the lavender stem in your bath water instead of in your cup, for a luxurious bath that soothes the mind and body.
  • Create a bright flavourful tea by adding the refreshment of lemon balm.
  • Serve chilled over ice with a slice of fresh lemon.
  • Add honey to taste.
